Rapid7 picks Pune
Rapid7, the Boston-based security company, announced on March 17, 2025 that it is expanding into India with a new Global Capability Center in Pune, scheduled to open in April 2025. The hub will be both an innovation center and a Security Operations Center (SOC).
Pune is one of India’s big technology cities, and Rapid7’s choice reflects the country’s growing reputation for tech talent. The city is often called the “Oxford of the East” for its universities. Its new office will give Rapid7 round-the-clock security operations coverage for customers around the world.
Why Pune
Rapid7 says the expansion is about talent and coverage. Time zones matter here. A SOC in India lets the company scale threat detection and response around the clock, and the city’s deep pool of engineers gives it room to grow its product and service teams for years.

“Expanding into India is a critical step in accelerating Rapid7’s investments in security operations leadership and customer-centric innovation,” said Corey Thomas, chairman and CEO of Rapid7.
Hiring plans
The Pune office will house technology, security operations, customer support and IT teams. Swami Nathan, Rapid7’s country manager for India, is leading the build-out. Hiring will focus on people who can drive innovation in cyber operations. It should also add skilled jobs to the local economy.
Working with local institutions
Rapid7 also wants to help build India’s security talent pipeline. It plans to foster AI collaborations with companies and academic institutions, and in May 2025 it scheduled Security Day events in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore for customers, partners and government and academic leaders.
Those ties could give Rapid7 a steady pipeline of trained staff while giving students real-world exposure to security operations.
A global company with a local base
For Rapid7, Pune adds capacity to its global operations. For India, it is another sign that international security vendors see the country as a place to build core teams, not just sales offices.

What to watch
The Pune hub is a practical move. It adds coverage, engineers and a bigger presence in a fast-growing market, and the real test will be how quickly the team scales.
If it works, expect more security vendors to follow Rapid7 to India’s tech cities.
